Local Hunts have played an important part in the history of the Pony Club. Many Pony Club branches were formed as a way of teaching children how to care for and ride their ponies out hunting. That is why many branches are named after their local hunt. Each season we hold a number of special Children's Meets where all children are welcome to join in the fun. Children are also welcome at other meets but must be accompanied by an adult or be part of the Hunting Parent Scheme. Before allowing your child to come out hunting you must make sure that: 1) The pony
is safe in the hunting field (fit, well shod, easy for the child to control!) All members or their parents must be members of the Countryside Alliance for insurance purposes. (Membership is free for children - ask Harriet for details) Subscription rates are detailed on the Subscription Page. For children to hunt off the leading rein we request that parents apply to Antice Baring for a Proficiency certificate that should be sent in with the annual subscription. The recommended level is for a child to be of C test level or above. Accompanying a child/Hunting Parent All children under 14 years should be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child throughout the hunting day. For those parents who are unable to provide a chaperone for the day we are currently trialling a Hunting Parent scheme. The Hunting Parent is there to help and instruct the children, and will try to tell them about what's going on. (S)he can only be responsible up to 2pm. A Hunting Parent will be distinguished by a PC tie worn around their arm. If your child
needs accompanying then you need to: Whilst your child is out with the Hunting Parent it is important to realise they are only their as a mounted helper. You are ultimately responsible for your child's welfare. The Hunting Parent role does not include any liability for any accidents during the day. Other Events Many of our social events throughout the year are geared towards including all of the family. These include Children's Viewing Days at Kennels in the summer where children have the opportunity to see round the kennels, meet the hounds and puppies and ask questions in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
